I embarked on a similar journey to yours, starting a new character in New World (I owned the game before the expansion but stopped playing after two months) and following a path quite like yours. I want to reassure you that everything you’re currently doing is perfectly fine, and you’re not missing out on anything at your current pace. However, let me address your questions:
- Changing your attributes later only costs 200 New World gold coins, which you’ll accumulate easily by the time you reach level 65. You can earn at least 1,000 gold a day by completing daily faction PvE quests (or PvP if that’s your preference), so respeccing your attributes later is quite affordable. For leveling, I’d recommend sticking to two weapons that you enjoy and that scale off the same stat (in your case, dexterity). Switching weapons is okay, but if you focus on two, they’ll both be around level 20 by the time you reach 65. At level 65, you’ll start earning regular weapon experience for killing mobs, whereas currently, you earn less for killing lower-level mobs. This encourages you to level your weapons to 20 after reaching 65. So, stick to two weapons for now, and at 65, you can easily respec to level your other weapons or level them on lower-level mobs (as many players do) without respeccing at all.
- The ideal equipment loadout is whatever makes you feel safest, but I’d recommend medium unless you’re aiming to be a tank or want to dive into min-maxing for PvP or PvE. Most hardcore players tend to suggest a light loadout in that case.
- Keep doing what you’re doing. It took me a month to complete the main story quests (all three of them) while also taking my time with gathering, side quests, and faction quests. By the time I finished, my gathering skills were all over 205, and I had already reached level 65. Just progress at a pace that you find enjoyable. You’re not really missing out on anything, and, to be honest, the journey to level 65 is, in my opinion, the most enjoyable part of the game.
- I’ve heard that daily crafting materials are available at 250 now, but I’ve also been informed by my company mates that you might actually lose gold by rushing this due to the current state of the economy on materials in our server. It costs thousands of gold to reach 250 right now, so it’s not a top priority for you. I would advise against rushing it. You may want to consult other players on your server or do the calculations yourself, but it’s possible you’ll end up spending a lot to reach 250 and could even lose money in the process.
- Some players stick to the required quests only, while others, like myself, aim to “100%” regions slowly. It’s not mandatory, but it can be a lot of fun!
Additional notes: Regarding the faction missions, I mentioned making 1,000 gold a day, but you’ll actually earn around 660 gold a day just from completing the missions. The additional 400 gold typically comes from the hidden caches you receive for picking up supply boxes along the way or from PvE missions that require it. These caches provide approximately 120 gold each for me at level 65, resulting in about 360 gold from all three caches. This totals to around 1,090 gold a day for me when I complete my daily faction missions.
I hope this information proves helpful in some way.
