OSRS The Nightmare of Ashihama

OSRS continues to add new content to keep both the old and new players intrigued. But today we will be talking about an entity added back in 2020. Yes, we are talking about The Nightmare of Ashihama, which brings reign and terror upon the players who seek to challenge it.

What is Nightmare of Ashihama?

I think we all are familiar with the word Nightmare, an otherworldly horror that feeds upon who slumbers within. Similarly, the Nightmare’s victims within the game are subjected to such horrors and have their life force drained.

Legend says that shamans performed a ritual that saw the creation of Nightmare in the form of a woman. While they were responsible for its creation, they had also tried to destroy it by channeling totems. However, they stood no chance against her.

The Sirens of Ashihama have been haunted ever since by the Nightmare. Shura and a group of sirens took charge against her by heading to the lair and attempting to force her out. It led to the Nightmare fleeing west to Slepe, a town that still suffers from a sleeper plague.

The Nightmare used this opportunity to steal the villager’s dream and grow more powerful. Shura is now looking for players who can help her keep the Nightmare at bay.

Where to find the Nightmare of Ashihama?

As previously mentioned, the Nightmare was driven out of Ashihama and into Morytania, which is formerly known as Slepe. You can only get there if you have access to Morytania. There are several quick routes to get to Slepe quickly.

You can teleport to Ver Sinhaza using Drakan’s Medallion. After that, you need to head north until you reach the docks, and then head right to reach Slepe. Alternatively, you can use Ectophial teleport to get to the Ectofuntus. After that, once again you need to head north to reach the docks and then pay 10k to get to Slepe.

How many players can team against it?

Nightmare of Ashiama is the first-ever group boss fight in OSRS. It means you can team up to 80 players to take her down. It’s worth noting that, unlike other bosses, the Nightmare’s stats scale up depending on the number of players in the battle.

You can either choose to approach her with few players, or you can team with a significant number as it won’t make much of a difference. Another point worth noting is that you cannot join the battle mid-way through, you need to wait until all the players are dead to start an instance.

The Battle

The only reach requirement for the Nightmare of Ashihama is access to Morytania. However, that doesn’t mean you can underestimate the boss by approaching her with lower levels. She is capable enough to destroy your character with a single blow. It is recommended that you have your combat stats above 85, with close attention to Prayer for protection.

The boss is equipped with many attacks that you would want to completely avoid. Looks out for the visual cues and prepare yourself accordingly. For instance, if she spins around shooting Pink Petals, then turn your Magic protection on. If you notice her twitching, then turn on your Ranged protection. And, finally, if you notice her arms flailing, then switch to Melee protection prayer.

Strategies that work best

The boss has three phases that incorporate basic and special attacks. Nightmare uses all three attack styles, so focus on attacking her while also hitting the four totems to power them up.

During the second phase, she’ll start summoning otherworldly beings called Sleepwalkers. You’ll want to take out as many as you can and then direct your focus back to charging the totems and breaking her shield. Be careful of special attacks like Curse, Parasites, and Grasping Claws.

The final phase is similar to the second one, so adopt the same strategy and you’ll survive. However, you do need to be careful of her Teleport Charge and Spores attacks.

Rewards

The Nightmare of Ashihama offers a lot of rare rewards, such as Clue Scroll, Eldritch Orb, Harmonised Orb, Inquisitor’s Great Helm, Inquisitor’s Hauberk, Inquisitor’s Mace, Inquisitor’s Plateskirt, Jar of Dreams, Little Nightmare, Nightmare Staff, and Volatile Orb.

Conclusion

Taking on the Nightmare of Ashihama may seem like a tedious task, but with enough practice and several deaths, you’ll slowly get a good hang of things. Stick to the tips and strategies that we’ve mentioned for better chances of survival. Good luck!
